![]() Egypt is marking the year 2000 with an all-night opera at the pyramids composed by French musician Jean-Michel Jarre. The 12-hour event will be launched at sunset December 31, 1999, and last until sunrise on the first day of the new millennium The composer
said he had turned down several offers for the millennium for the "privilege"
of performing on the Giza plateau, home to the last of the seven wonders
of the world.

Egypt will receive enormous television coverage, reaching an approximate
3.5 billion viewers. French channel M6 will broadcast the entire main act
at 00.05 on New Year's Day.
